When will we care?

Today I went into Book Ends Café and was sharing with the young barista about the broadcast I had just heard from Democracy Now on the raids and the infringements of our rights happening around the Republican National Convention in St. Louis. His response was, “I just don’t care.” While I understand the apathy and how it happens, I am still somewhat shocked at the complete unwillingness for so many of us, myself included too often, to really stand up, get vocal, organize and fight for our rights.

Will we care when we have curfews and police on our streets brutalizing innocent people just because they feel like it and they can? That’s happening now, today, do we care yet? Would we care if it was us or someone we know personally who’s house was ransacked, camera cards erased, video camera’s taken, houses broken down and put under arrest for doing nothing but exercising our rights, according to our constitution? That too happened today, do we care yet? How close to home does it need to be?

Will we care when yet another war monger president is in office, inciting more hatred, death, revenge and mass destruction in the name of the “Proud and the free,” creating more enemies in the world for our children to have to try to make peace with? Would we get active if we had to consider, as people in other countries have had to do, putting a machine gun in the arms of our 5 year old sons, brothers, cousins, to protect our families and homes? Would that make us care?

Will we care when some of these angry people finally get thru and land on our soil and start to wreak the havoc here that our country, in the name of freedom, has there? Will we care then? Will we care when it is us who are seeing our friends, cafes and streetcorners blown up by car bombs?

When will we really care? Everyone’s so busy, few people have the energy to care. Like this young man, it was a bother for him to stay informed and he got to upset and felt like there’s no way to make it shift perhaps… I know I’ve felt that a lot.

Listening today to what is going on at the Convention, the degree of the fear mentality, the control, the police state-ness of the whole thing triggered some place deep inside of me. I felt it in a way I haven’t in some years, and the graveness of this election, and the coming months is weighing heavy on my heart, even though I live in the Boulder Bubble, and everyone’s happy and excited for Obama. Even though I know all things work in the way they are meant to, and all the spiritual hoo haa that I know to be truth, even still, the gravity of our current political reality is beyond my comprehension for sure. I have felt it for many years growing to this place, and in my own way of keeping my own sanity, I have stayed quietly reflecting, praying, and trying to counter the “powers that be” by not subscribing to the fear, the dogma or even the media’s attempts at brainwashing and manipulation. I see much possibility and not all of it is as pleasant as I’d prefer. I feel edges of civil unrest, and would not put it past the current regime to fuel that fire to distract us more, as they are doing now with the raids, and the arrests of conscious media and activists folks such as those working with Democracy Now and Food not Bombs.

My call to action is to visualize the world as we want it, but beyond that to ACT and to support those who are out there on the “front lines” of this heated political time in whatever ways we can: $, letters, food, support, prayers. I was an activist when I was in college, and I had to stop because my fire gets a little too hot, and I knew I’d end up in jail or getting shot. It takes a lot of courage, a lot of guts to get out there and really do the work that our true freedom fighters are doing there to tell us the truth and report what’s going on. I just want to honor those people, and say “THANK YOU.” You are doing what many of us are too afraid, too consumed, too apathetic or too “busy” (ha ha) to do, and I am so proud of you when I hear you on the radio, see you in the streets, stepping up for us. You are the soldiers of the people, fighting peacefully, and I pray the power of the almighty, call it whatever you like, is with you to keep you strong.

  1. Cheri,
Thank You for your insightful, compassionate message.
    I agree with your sentiments.
A prominent Denver law firm is working on passing a law in CO. where anyone who gets pulled over for any reason would be obligated by law to have their DNA taken. This would subject everyone to being set up, having their DNA planted where ever and when ever the authorities wanted. Supposedly, it has already been accepted by 7 states, although it is being fought for unconstitutionality.
The loss of rights are mounting...In good old CO. a female can point a finger at a man which "proves the crime". In good old CO. Long term imprisonment is now the disporportional sentence for possessing not a joint, but ashes or residual resin...

It is the "law makers" and judges which are one of the country's biggest hugest problems! Laws of manipulation and control, prosecution without trial, torture without facing your accused, etc, positioning the elite for economic control, etc. are all an extremely old Luciferian adgenda disguised as fear based protections. Not voting for cap on gas prices in light of the biggest profits in history, the voting for war, the special interests and proliferation of the military industrial complex, elite owned and controled media presenting leaders' blatant lies and deception to proliferate war for substantiating and legalizing the looting of trillions of tax dollars, as well as privatization of contracts to support it. The patriot act, diminishing freedom, insane right wing religious conservatism that makes human interaction into crimes, judicial rulings that ignore and are above the law, the war on drugs and sex crimes, which have at least 30% imprisoned for acts they didn't committ.
    It is endless...

Obama says that with a stroke of a pen, he will reverse as many
of these criminal administrative policies as possible! The current admin should all be tried for global war crimes by the wotld court when this term runs out...

Obama has taught Constutional Law at Harvard for 10 years, and is the President of a Harvard Law review; the most prestigious law publication in the U.S. He is aware of the incredibly corrupt legal system, and abominable police atricities, and hopefully will make alot of needed corrections.
    {Even though on the surface, there is vocal support for more of a police state, because it agrees with the biggest surface beleif system of the masses, who have no idea of such a deplorable system.}

    I can tell you this:
The IRS, the Federal Reserve, and the stupid disporportionate Electorial College, all need to be abolished! I won't go into greedy world bankers, money lending, and inflation right now, but here is the scary thing:
EVEN IF Obama WINS the Majority, AND the Delegate votes, it is the Electorial College that STOLE the Last Two elections, and it "could" theoretically happen again
because it's not the votes that counts, it's who counts the votes!!!
It's the mechanism more than the voice of the people that matters
    to represent the people.

What will it take for people to stop being screwed and manipulated and controled out of their rights, is a great question you pose.
In past instances, the people stormed the castles, overthrew the leaders and their constituants, gave the land back to the people, and had a NEW SYSTEM. We're only at the tip of the ice berg so far...
Peacably creating new ways of living to benefit all, seems to be a good start...

  2. good newsletter.
i feel your fire, you have good passion.

really we haven't ever had any real rights in this country since the civil war when the north won over the south, effectively ending the constitution.

c'mon... federal reserve: UNCONSTITUTIONAL, prohibitions... UNCONSTITUTIONAL, militarized police force...UNCONSTITUTIONAL, Patriot Act... UNCONSTITUTIONAL... america has always been a country run by the elite aristocratic class.

the constitution is a lie, just like that song "This land is your land, this land is my land"
This land is God's land and that only.

george washington would be the first to fight the present system.

but there'll b a revolution no doubt, it's reaching critical mass... soon the balloon is going to burst and the hour of decision will be before us. the problem with americans, is that most people born after WW2 is spoiled rotten and doesn't really WANT to fight or defend their rights... why do that when the World Series is on? and then after that the Superbowl... and then the basketball championships... the secret to any success in tyranny is to keep your victims entertained while simultaneously making them live in constant fear. Here's a good quote my friend likes to use: "A fat and happy man makes a poor revolutionary."

  4. Ohh don't even get me started.
I go in between a seathing volcano & biting my tongue. Perhaps we
could all start by refusing to go to work for a week...that would start by putting a dent in their war funds. Or all of us stop paying our credit cards, mortgages or taxes... Ok yes it may seem ubsurd or extreme, but doesn't it seem like we are being pushed over the edge by the ruthless group making insane laws... and desperate times call for desperate measures. I think we should all one by one get marching across the globe into the streets in an outright mayhem! We would certainly out number the pathetic psychopaths in control then wouldn't we... what could they do then... it seems it may be necessary to end the insanity going on here. It seems we have let them get away with criminal behavior for too long, now they feel they can go for broke. They seem to stop at nothing. This is concerning, they appear to be maniacs.
While we all work our asses off to keep up with a system that is made up of extreme slavery, sickness, abuse and manipulation for their benefits. What a joke! What's this all for then... what are we doing here people... when is enough enough... What will it take for people to be pushed to revolt... Every day they take more and more for themselves and leave us less and less of our power. What the hell is going on here...It's like a bad nightmare that I am not waking up from. Must be we are allowing them this opportunity...

When will we all join hand and hand together against the machine to say NO! NO MORE!
I have concern of the people I see on a daily basis now. They are getting sleepy, sick, distracted, challenged, weak, consumed, overwhelmed, checking out, giving up, frustrated, drugged. This is how they can rob us blind.

Turning souls into robots & slaves. Ouch! And they are making a killing off of us - unfortunately literally. It's been like a very bad virus. It's completely not ok what has gone on and is continuing to go on. It is as if God has left the building, and all hell's out for recess! These ill individuals that have wreaked such extreme suffering onto our planet & people for too long, need to be brought to their knees.
Here is another idea... how about the kids being proposed into the military cults - refuse to participate... That may make them raise an eyebrow or two..without any killers, they can't play war.

Can't continue the threads of toxic destructive karma on that one.
What are we living for... I am concerned we have lost our way. We may want to consider calling a town meeting as to how we can gain back our control here.
All this insanity certainly didn't happen overnight. And they indeed appear to be pretty clever. So we will need to be even more clever, or stronger or wiser....and do what it takes. Our lives, our children, our planet depend on it!

Maybe this is what the divine plan is made up of...

I pray that one day we will fly free as the eagle.
Because being locked up in a cage for too long - is just not ok.
The oppression of the masses is not ok. The implimentation of a sick and abusive system is not ok.

I envision that one day we will break free, rising above - to fly free as the eagle!
And we will be released of the memory of this pain. You...

  5. Hi Cheri,

I'm so glad you wrote that. I watched the 2 hours of Democracy Now on KBDI-TV 12 this afternoon and it was all quite stunning. If you can see the visuals you will be even more appalled and dumbfounded.

"Everything happens as it's supposed to" can be used, as it most often is, as a narcotic, a defense against whatever it is that is making us uncomfortable. There is a distinction between everything happening for a reason, which it certainly does in this complexly interconnected existence, but that's not to be confused with something happening that is for the highest good, which is entirely something else. People like to mistake one for the other. This comes from Neale Donald Walsh in one of his "Conversations with God" books, ala this is according to "God."

Carolyn Myss riffs on about this somewhere, I wish I had the reference, but she rails against people who turn off their TV's because they don't want to be exposed to negativity. Consciousness = awareness = attention. Not caring, or only caring about one's personal material and/or spiritual wellbeing is simply ignorance, one of the three Buddhist poisons, which in turn is based on the illusion that we are separate in the first place.

    Keep up the good work.

    It's time to wake up.

Yes, what will it take .... I have to wonder.

  6. My roommate sent me your link in her reply to my blog today on "Why Women Should Vote."

Taking action is a fine thing.

When I do it with the idea that I'm going to be "happier in some imagined future," though, it rarely works out like that. I went into that more in my blog.

When my action just arises from my clarity, it is very different from when I am pushing from one side of something to another.

One is peaceful and more effective. The other is stressful, and well, it can boomerang to the other side and find me totally off-centered.

We often claim to be "caring," when, in fact, we are only forcing our will, our viewpoint or our lifestyle on someone else.

    It's worth checking to see.

  7. Dear Cheri
I read about your visit at the cafe. My best friend's step son and girl friend were arrested in on of the three raids of the Food Not Bombs houses. I am very worried that if American's don't start to wake up soon.
